News » Interview LayDee Jane (CZ)

She loves dj'ing and here fans means a lot to her! But if some groupie is waiting for her hotel door, she'll take a look in yellow pages and give him the phone number for the nearest “joyhouse” :-)

1. Can you tell us something new about Lay Dee Jane which we don’t know yet? And our male fans don’t mind at all if this is a bit juicy ;-)
I think that I usually tell all the interesting facts regarding my job in various interviews, so I don’t really have any secrets to reveal. As for some juicy details, Sorry guys.. no piquancy for you, I live in happy marriage for a quite few years.

2. What's the craziest moment you've ever experienced as a DJ during your set?
One of the most memorable moments I’ve experienced was at my second performance at outdoor Creamfields event in Czech Republic. I started to play pretty soon in the afternoon so when I got up to the turntables, there was literally like 10 people hanging around the stage. During one hour of my set the dancefloor filled up with thousands of clubbers with their hands in the air, while the other stages were still nearly empty. I really didn’t expect this and I will always remember this night.

On the other hand I also have some bad experience. For example at my gig in one prestigious event visited by thousands of people I started to play and one of the gramophones wasn’t working. Because I don’t use CDs, I spin only the records, it was really very uncomfortable situation, but luckily the crowd was cool and understanding.

3. Which is the biggest dj you’ve shared a stage with?
I wouldn’t say I’m still so excited about the „big names” I have a chance to meet on one stage. That’s not the most important thing that matters, right? I’m more interested in what’s the event like, how all the organization works, if the equipment is all right and if it’s well attended by the clubbers. But if you want some concrete names, I’d say the best known are Marco V, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Svenson, Rank 1, Johan Gielen, Randy Katana, Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and many more.

4. What do you like the most about your job?
The fact I’m enjoying what I do! And I hope I’ll stay that way for long time. I never really had this dream of becoming the DJ, but I always wanted to do something related to music industry. When I was a little girl I used to go to various artistic schools which I enjoyed really much. Now when I play, I have really great feeling that the crowd likes the same music as I do, we are on the same wave. And when I read the messages from my fans, the things they say to me about their emotions and feelings they have during my sets, sometimes it’s almost unbelievable and it means a lot to me!
5. What’s your current top 5?
Actually this changes every month, so if I tell you now, in few days it will maybe not be true. Generally I like high quality tracks, something between techno and trance +/- 138 BPM. Every track I play must be interesting piece with kicking groove and what counts the most is the idea. I also play some more progressive tracks sometimes and when I’m not in the mood for this I switched to the more uplifting melodies.

6. If you had to change your profession what would you like to be?
I have no idea because I don’t really think about this. But I’m sure it would be something in music business. But I also like the horses very much, so maybe I would end up cleaning the animal stable somewhere :-)

7. What’s the dance scene in Czech Republic like?
One word-GREAT! The clubbers go out for the specific music, that’s important. There are people with different music taste like everywhere in the world, basically the most popular styles over there are techno, trance and house. I like their attitude that they don’t ask all the time for the same hits, but they also appreciate most of the new quality tracks which they are not familiar with. The Czech promoters have been doing really great job lately, the parties are very well organized and local clubs are very well comparable with good clubs and venues abroad. Of course Czech dance scene is not perfect, but what is?

8. What will you do when there’s a groupie sitting in front of your hotel door?
I’ll take a look in yellow pages and I’ll give him the phone number for the nearest “joyhouse” :)

9. What are you’re future plans?
I don’t really like to speak about my plans, but I’m sure it’ll be something regarding my gigs and new production. I’d like to keep my residencies in Fabric and Duplex (where I have free hand with choosing my music guests) and in club MAD in Switzerland. I‘ve just concluded new booking and management contract, so I’m also little in anticipation of the future things.

10. Do you have a personal message for your Czech fans?
Thank you very much for all your support you’ve been giving me, I’m grateful for every message you post on my website and I’m happy you still like to go to the parties where I play. It would be impossible to do my job without you!
